Moringa leaves (murungai keerai) are known globally as a superfood – packed with vitamins A, C, K, calcium, iron, and protein . They’ve been used in Indian diets for ages, often in soups, curries, or as powders for their medicinal benefits (immunity, anti-inflammatory, lactation support in new mothers, etc.) . Aromacy’s Moringa Podi is our convenient and tasty way to incorporate this green gold daily. We take fresh moringa leaves, shade-dry them to retain maximum nutrients, then lightly roast with dal (usually urad or a mix including urad for texture and chana for nuttiness), cumin, pepper, a bit of chili, and garlic or hing for flavor depth. We then grind everything into a fine powder. The result is a deep green (a bit darker than curry leaf podi due to moringa’s denser chlorophyll) powder that smells earthy and savory. The taste: a bit more vegetal (moringa has a mild spinach-meets-radish kind of green taste) but quite pleasant when combined with the roasted garlic/pepper and lentils. It’s moderate in spice; pepper gives a gentle warmth (in many traditional recipes, moringa is paired with pepper, not too much red chili). This is a podi where health truly meets flavor: you get a significant dose of nutrients – for instance, moringa’s vitamin A supports vision and immunity, its iron helps hemoglobin , calcium for bones, etc. – all in a spoon of tasty powder. Because it’s combined with protein-rich dal, it becomes a more complete supplement. Many people who are anemic or low-energy incorporate moringa podi with great results (naturally, results vary, but it’s an excellent supportive food). Even postpartum women in South India are given moringa dishes to rebuild strength – this podi could be an easy way for anyone to get those benefits without cooking separate recipes. From a flavor perspective, when mixed with ghee and rice, it’s almost like an instant mild “masiyal” (greens mash) with rice. And children might take it better than seeing green leaves in food. Our Moringa Podi has no bitterness despite moringa’s slight bitter note, as we balance it with spices and the inherent sweetness of roasted dal. It stands as a testament to our motto: making traditional nutrition accessible and enjoyable. No pills, no fancy smoothies – just sprinkle podi on your rice or dosa, and you’re nourishing your body with a time-honored ingredient. It’s also naturally vegan and gluten-free (except trace thing).
